Advanced Diagnostics
Knowing where the cancer is in your prostate along with knowing the most accurate stage and grade of your cancer is critical for effective diagnosis treatment. And its essential for any target or focal treatment where some prostate tissue is being left untreated. Dr. Scionti is currently working with top engineers and scientist to develop and incorporate an advanced diagnostic and follow up program for his patients.
Know Where Your Cancer Is
A critical component in accurately diagnosing and treating prostate cancer is the ability to efficiently biopsy the prostate. A traditional prostate biopsy procedure may produce up to a 30% failure rate in the accurate diagnosis of prostate cancer. Further, traditional biopsy procedures are limited in their ability to target specific regions of the prostate.
Dr. Scionti is working with a small group of highly trained physicians to help develop advanced technology and techniques for the next generation of prostate biopsies. At the heart of this next generation procedure is newly emerging three dimensional (3-D) ultrasound equipment that provides significant advances in prostate mapping and prostate targeting. The new 3-D systems currently being tested by Dr. Scionti allow for more precise biopsy visualization, needle guidance and biopsy placement.
Know What Your Cancer is like?
If you have been diagnosed with prostate cancer, you probably know some of your clinical information like - PSA level, Gleason score and clinical stage. These three clinical indicators have been used for years to classify patients, into one of three risk groups (low, intermediate or high). However, the challenge with assessing risk in this manner is that it may not be sensitive enough. Especially if you are considering a focal or partial treatment option.
Today, more than 85% of newly diagnosed patients are considered low-or intermediate-risk. That's the problem. Many patients have similar clinical information and can often appear the same when in fact they are very different. One patient might have a slow growing cancer that will never be a problem and the second patient might have an aggressive cancer. Your prostate cancer is not the same cancer found in your neighbor, best friend or anyone else you know who was diagnosed.
Dr. Scionti is currently using a new procedure to more accurately assess the risk of his patient's prostate cancer. The goal is to help ensure that you have the best information available to you. Because knowledge is the most powerful weapon you have in the fight against prostate cancer.
Dr. Scionti has combined his vast skills and experience in treating over 600 High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) patients along with his unique HIFU techniques to develop the Advanced HIFU Protocol.

Dr. Stephen Scionti, Founder and Director of the Scionti Prostate Center of Boston, has co-authored a new article on the role of MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) in identifying and treating early stage prostate cancer patients while greatly reducing or even eliminating the risk of damaging side effects from radical surgery.
