  • New Fusion System Creates a Smart Prostate Biopsy

The Scionti Prostate Center now can provide FUSION of real-time 3D ultrasound and advanced 3D MRI prostate images using the latest Artemis System. The result is a true targeted biopsy requiring FEWER BIOPSY NEEDLES.

  • Scionti Advanced HIFU Protocol

The Scionti Advanced HIFU Protocol is based on his vast skills and experience in treating over 600 HIFU patients along with the unique techniques he developed to reduce HIFU therapy side effects.

  • Prostate Focal Therapy

The goal of prostate focal therapy is long-term cancer control with minimal treatment side effects. For the right patients focal therapy can be an effective middle ground. I offer select patients three focal therapy options: Cryotherapy, HIFU and MRI-Guided Prostate Laser Ablation.

  • MRI Prostate 3D scanning

The Scionti Prostate Center offers patients 3D MRI scanning capable of detecting tiny tumors that can be precisely sampled to help improve prostate cancer diagnosis, treatment and follow up.

  • 3D Prostate Mapping

The Scionti Prostate Center can provide patients a 3D PROSTATE-MAP showing visual details of the size, location and shape of any prostate tumors, all critical information for targeting a biopsy and/or planning a prostate treatment.

MRI-Guided Prostate Laser Ablation

  • MRI-Guided Prostate Laser Ablation is an minimally invasive procedure designed to identify, target and destroy prostate cancer tumors while sparing the healthy prostate tissues and dramatically reducing the risk of side effects like incontinence and impotence.

This revolutionary new procedure is designed to achieve long-term cancer control with low side effects associated with most prostate cancer treatments.

  • Dr. Scionti offers MRI-Guided Prostate Laser Ablation to select patients who's cancer is low risk, early stage and low volume. To identify potential candidates Dr. Scionti asks patients to first undergo an MIR (magnetic resonance imaging) scan. The MRI produces detailed images of the prostate and can help identify potential tumors within the prostate. Once identified a biopsy is performed to confirm or rule out cancer.

For patients who quality, MRI-Guided Prostate Laser Ablation is structured to destroy the main cancerous tumor (or index tumor) within the prostate. The goal is two fold. First and most importantly, control the cancer by ablating the index tumor. This is achieved by using a special precision MRI-Guided laser. The second goal is to avoid collateral damage to sensitive structures that can affect a man's quality-of-life.

MRI-Guided Prostate Laser Ablation also allows a "safety net" for patients should additional cancer be discovered or new cancers develop later in life. That's because the procedure can be repeated, additionally it preserves the ability to retreat with other treatment, including surgery and radiation if necessary.
  • The Best Candidates for MRI-Guided Prostate Laser Ablation

    1. Men eligible for watchful waiting (also called active surveillance). The logic here is if your doctor is willing to forgo treatment then laser ablation represents an option that is above and beyond the recommended level of care.

    2. Men with confirmed unifocal disease (meaning prostate cancer is found only on one side of the prostate gland). Treating the index tumor (or multiple tumors) on just the cancerous side of the gland while sparing the opposite sided provides a rational middle ground approach for these men.

    3. Men with clinically insignificant multifocal disease (meaning patients with very small tumors that are found on both sides of the gland). While this group may present the highest degree of risk, that risk can be reduced though a comprehensive diagnosis and screening process combined with a diligent follow up program.

    Treatment Strategy

Dr. Scionti typically performs MRI-Guided Prostate Laser Ablation in conjunction with Dr. Dan Sperling, a Board Certified Radiologist and recognized leader in the field of prostate MRI (magnetic resonance imaging). Dr. Sperling specializes in MRI-Guided tumor detection, MRI-Guided biopsy and MRI-Guided Laser Ablation. Together Dr. Scionti and Dr. Sperling represent a formable team through the combination of their unique Urology and Radiology expertise.
